Now That’s What I Call Art is an exhibition by open invitation. It's a collaboration between System Gallery and Spaghetti Factory, two North East artist-run projects, which will be held at Newcastle Contemporary Art in December 2021 and January 2022.
Art and culture are the common property of everyone, and so the opportunity to shape it should be treated as a fundamental human right. As art and culture are a public commodity, the galleries which house it should be public democratic spaces. This is not an open call' it is an ‘open invitation'. We are keen to see the exhibition transform from an empty white box to a shifting gathering of artworks, ideas and processes.
Over December 2021 and January 2022 we invite artists at all stages to display one artwork or set of artworks. There is no selection process and we will support as many artists as we can to exhibit their work, but there may be a cut-off based purely on the space, the number of artists and the time we have available. For complex works which may require a bit more construction or planning please reach out and we'll do our best to accommodate. We are happy to support and offer advice and help in installing your work.
To be part of Now That's What I Call Art 2021 you just need to arrive with the work ready to install and collect it before the exhibition ends.
