This was a project with Fine Art BA students at Newcastle College to produce an exhibition at The NewBridge Project about colour 🌈 We set a creative brief, supported the development of the work through lectures and studio visits and provided curatorial and install support.
BRIEF:
We will have ten colours to choose from. Each student will be randomly assigned one colour
This is just a starting point
We want you to dig deeper into the colour and research it
We are interested in how you bend and shape the brief, your interpretation and where your
research takes you. We are happy for you to investigate your colour in whatever way makes
sense to you. We want to make sure the work you design is true to your own practice.
Use your chosen colour as a prompt to research and dig deeper. These are some
suggestions for exploration
● History
● Cultural relevance
● Pantone Colour of the Year
● Your immediate response to that colour/the emotional response
● Colour theory
● That colour and it’s context in
- art
- advertising
- signs/signals
- tv & film
- buildings/interiors
- everyday objects
- fashion/trends
The final work doesn’t even have to contain your chosen colour (it can, but doesn’t have to)
