The Spaghetti Factory
Picture

30th March 2019

I’m an introvert. I love people but I feel drained by listening to conversations I don’t need to hear, I just get bored. Maybe I’m too lazy to react to everything. It’s tiring and I need time to rest. This is why my artwork is about objects - They don’t walk. So I keep making images of new non-functional objects. Our world is so full of rational things; it is freeing to make something nonsensical, unique objects that don’t require any reason.

I recently expanded my media to include digital painting, where I can do more in a shorter time. I put the command into the computer, in this case it’s my body, and let it produce the outcome. I love creating 3D illusions in 2D media. The objects seem to be tangible but they actually aren’t; they exist whilst not existing. Creating an actual 3D object would rid the pieces of that impossibility.

I only plan about 20% of the elements and medium I want to use, I like to reach an outcome through play, to be surprised. I believe these shapes are a crystallization of my own experiences; things I’ve seen, animals, buildings and nature. Mt colour schemes are inspired by cartoons and video games from my childhood and stained-glass windows from the church I went to as a child.
